Midwest foodie: Best burger in New Orleans. Hands down. Huge patty that they cook to medium-rare perfection (you can get it any way you like, but c’mon, don’t ruin your burger by ordering it well-done). Burger comes with a baked potato that you can dress up with cheese, mushrooms, sour cream, chives, and bacon bits. I hear the steak is great but haven’t tried it myself. Don’t be scared by the wait, its worth it, trust me. Two thumbs, two toes, one happy tongue up.
West Coast boozer: Port of Call’s drinks menu has French Quarter all over it: the sugar high gets you more buzzed than the insane amounts of alcohol. The drinks are the only part to this restaurant that feels a bit touristy but washing down a big ass burger with a monsoon was an experience my tummy won’t forget. If you’re looking for classy or inventive cocktails this is not your place but for campy, fun drinks for maximum intoxication stumble this way. B+
East Coast vibes: The hole in the wall spot of New Orleans. Juke box with only throwbacks, candlelit tables and brick walls with old mariner knick knacks welcome you after a wait that hints it’s not just your run of the mill burger spot. Behind Frenchman it’s where those in the know (and with a big appetite) go. Stroll over after some live music and join the tourist and local krewe who all share a love for the dive and a love for the beef. 9/10
